Q.  What are head lice?
A.  The head louse (P.h. capitis) is a small, parasitic insect that lives mainly on the scalp and neck of their human host. They are capable of moving from head to head, thus no one is immune. Lice live by biting the scalp and sucking out the blood. Their saliva contains an antiseptic, which can cause a mental slowdown if the host is continuously bitten over a long period of time.   

Q.  What is a nit?
A.  Nits are eggs that are hardly visible, resemble dandruff, and are firmly attached to the base of the hair shaft. They appear oval and generally yellowish to white in color. They take about 7 to 10 days to hatch.

Q.  Who is susceptible to the lice infestation?
A.  Children are more susceptible because they are more likely to have close contact in homes, playgrounds, schools, kindergartens and daycare centers. Adults may become infested without being aware of it and can become a source of infestation to others.

Q.  How do I know if I have lice?
